The maiden edition of this prestigious award honored fifty (50) achievers on the 28th October 2010 at Shehu Musa Yar’Adua center Abuja, in commemoration of Nigeria’s Golden Jubilee Independence celebration as it served as an opportunity to celebrate the Niger Deltans who sacrificed in diverse ways towards the growth of the rich oil region in the past years of existence.

Recipients include: Cardinal OlubunmiOkogie, Comrade Peter Esele, Gaius Obaseki, Dr. OlusegunMimiko, Margaret Benson Idahosa, Comrade Adams Oshiomohole, Late Dr. GamalielOnosode amongst many others.



The second edition was celebrated on 13th October 2011 at Hotel Presidential Port-Harcourt where 30 individuals and 10 corporate organizations received various categories of awards. Amongst the award recipients are Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Dame Judith Amaechi, Jim Ovia, KenebiOkoko, TonyePrincewill, Adamu Abubakar, Scott Tommy, OlorogunO’tegaEmerhor and a host of others



The third edition of the awards was hosted at the prestigious Chelsea Hotel Abuja in November 2012. In this edition, Newaves Innovation launched the NDAMA PROJECT (IT EMPOWERMENT), a program with the main focus of training and equipping youths with IT skills.

Recipient includes: Barr. Festus Keyamo, Senator NdomaEgba, Mrs. ObiomaLyielImoke, Capt. HosaOkunbo, Arch. Mrs. FifiEjindu, Pind Foundation to mention but a few.



The city of Calabar hosted the 4th edition of the awards with the theme: “INDUSTRIALIZATION OF THE NIGER DELTA- Issues and Challenges”. The event took place on 3rd October 2013 at the Transcorp Metropolitan Hotel, Calabar with attendance of personalities from the public and private sectors. Top ranked recipients includes: Mrs. Ebizi Brown, Engr. BeniahElemchukwu, Prof. MkpaMkpa, Fate Foundation, CRBC TV, Daoju Whyte, MosumolaAbudu amongst many others.

A keynote address was delivered by Mrs. NgeriBenebo, Director-General/CEO National Environmental Standard and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA).


The fifth edition of the awards was insightful and glamorous with the theme: “LEGACIES OF PEACE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE NIGER DELTA- laying the right foundation”. The awards took place at Sheraton Hotels, Abuja and attracted dignitaries from within and outside the Niger Delta region.

Awarded at the event include: Sen. Daisy Danjuma, Levant Construction ltd, Dame Alice Lawrence Nemi, Ocean Marine & Oil services ltd, His Excellency Dr. DairusIshaku (Taraba State Governor) who was then the Minister of Niger Delta, Dr. OviemoOvadje to mention but a few. The theme of the event was delivered in a speech by Niger Delta female activist, Ms. Annkio Briggs.


The sixth edition of this prestigious award took place at the LadiKwali Hall, Sheraton Hotel Abuja on 26th May 2015 with the theme: “BUILDING A PROSPEROUS REGION ON THE PILLARS OF PEACE, SECURITY, ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT”. The theme was conceptualized to provide the Niger Deltans the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve a region where peace and security prevail above all other. It is said that a country’s economic development is related to its human development, as a result of this, emerging economies now place high premium on human capital development.


Receiving the awards under different categories were individuals and corporate organizations who have distinguished themselves in their various fields of endeavors. These recipients include: Ibufuro Thompson Tatua (Young Performing Personality of the year), Chief Raphael Okaruefe(Entrepreneur of the year), Mrs. Kenny Adazie (Award for Creativity and Enterprise), Levant Construction Ltd (Construction Company of the year) and Ambassador GodknowsIgali (Award for Excellence in Public Service).


Other recipients at the award include INTELS Nigeria Ltd (Indigenous Company of the year), Ambassador Joshua Okpo (Academic Personality of the year), Charles Dale Memorial International School (Best Performing Secondary school of the year), Ambassador Gabriel Oyibode (Award for Excellence in Leadership and Youth Empowerment), Bereton Montessori School (Best Performing Primary School of the year), Ambassador UtchyUdims (Award for Excellence in Leadership) to mention but a few. The keynote speech on the theme of the event was delivered by Mr. Benson Uwheru, a prolific professional and consultant with Erst and young.


The 7th edition of the award was dedicated to highlighting strategies to restructuring and revamping the economic system in the region through improving the human capital development. The event held at Ibom Le’Meridien Golf and Resort, Akwa Ibom on 24th June 2016, with the theme: HARNESSING NON-OIL INVESTMENT AND GROWTH OPPORTUNITIES IN THE NIGER DELTA. The theme of the event was conceptualized to identify new investment opportunities that abound in the region with special focus on building on SMEs and entrepreneurship.

The 7th Niger Delta Achievers Merit Awards brought together regional and global leaders to discuss innovative and structural investment reforms that can sustain the region’s growth while creating jobs and opportunities for all. Among the recipients of the award are Ubong King (Award for Creativity and Enterprise), Barr. TimipreWolo (Role Model to the Female Child), Mr. Lele Aaron (Award for Creativity and Business Enterprise), Prof. AkilIbahdodeh (Academic Personality of the Year), Sir Monday Onyeme (Award for Excellence in Leadership), RT. Hon Friday Osanebi (Community Developer of the Year), RT. Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke (Award for Excellence in Leadership), Ocean Water Marine and Oil Services Limited (Indigenous Company of the Year), Lydia Udoh (Role Model to the Female Child), Chief Barry Gbe (Award for Creativity and Enterprise), MrsIfiok Anthony Akan (Young Performing Personality of the Year) to mention but a few.



The 8th edition of the award was a compendium of glitz and glamour, where individuals and corporate organizations were honored for their contribution to the growth of the region with the theme: Practical Steps and Solutions to Positioning the Niger Delta for Sustainable Development.
